Hardware Links
-
gnupic.org
-- Links to all of the stuff you need for programming PICs under
Linux. There is even an emulator that will show you
the state of pins of the hardware.
-
Newfound Electronics
-- Makers of the affordable Warp-13 PIC programmer among others. This is
a very nice programmer that can program a very large number
of PICs from Ateml and Microchip.
They used to have source code for using the programmer under Linux. However, I can no longer find it on thier site (28-Apr-2002).
However, I have a local copy of
tm4-13.tgz which works with the Warp-13.
Do not let the fact the code was last updated in 1999 fool you: it
works quite well. Although I am dissapointed that they no longer offer the
source on their site.
-
Microchip
-- Make many models of PICs with lots of application notes.
The 16F84 series is the most popular because it has flash
memory meaning that it can be reprogrammed without special
equipment e.g. a UV eraser. The 12c5xx series are also fun
but they are OTP (one time programmable) unless you get one
with a window in it which is indicated by a JW in the part code.
For thouse, you need a UV eraser of which
Atmel
-- Also makes PICs among other things.
-
Cypress Semiconducor Corp.
-- Make man things including
programmable USB chips.
There are third-part programmers that support the USB chips
(not including the warp-13) but it seems that you have a different
prgrammer for each chip. You may want to check out USB chips from
Microchip e.g the 16c7x5.
-
Digikey
-- A great place for getting all of the parts you need
for your next project.
External Plan and Schematic Links
-
CommLinx
-- Lots of good plans.
-
Rentron
-- Info on using a PIC12C67X.

-
Mastincrosbie
-- With the quintessential flashing LED for the 16F84.
-
PS/N64 to USB
-- These are the original plans for connection your playstation or
nintendo 64 controller to your PC via the USB port. Full code
and schematics provided.
Note that this code is for the
Cypress CY7C63000A-PC (one time-programmable, 2K ROM)
or CY7C63001A-WC (UV erasable & 4K ROM)
[Cypress Website].
Just in case the site ever goes away:
-
ePanorama
-- Lots of links including one about
lighting,
including circuits.
